‌Dubai Titanium Anode Waste Recycling Case: Green Practice from Chlor-alkali Industry to Resource Recycling

Our business Cathy met the client Hammad on Linkedin. After communication, we learned that the client had 50 tons of titanium anode waste to sell. After making a decision, we went to Dubai, the destination of the client, to meet and communicate.

1. Background Introduction

Dubai is a vibrant city, and the chlor-alkali industry is one of the important industries supporting its economic development.

The chlor-alkali industry mainly produces chlorine and caustic soda by electrolyzing brine solutions, and is one of the basic industries of the chemical industry. In Dubai, the development of the chlor-alkali industry has driven the prosperity of related industries, but it has also generated a large amount of titanium anode waste. Titanium anodes, as key components in electrolytic cells, have a limited service life. As the electrolysis process proceeds, the anodes will gradually lose their activity and eventually become waste.

2. Recycling process and practice

After arriving in Dubai, Hammad received us very warmly and made us feel the warmth of home. Then we communicated all the details, and after confirmation, we started the titanium anode waste recycling work. The recycling process of titanium anode waste mainly includes the following steps:

‌Collection and classification‌: First, the recycling team will collect the discarded titanium anodes from the chlor-alkali plant and perform preliminary classification and cleaning to remove surface dirt and impurities.

‌Coating stripping‌: For titanium anodes with precious metal coatings, the recycling team will use chemical or physical methods to strip the coating from the titanium substrate. This step requires strict control of reaction conditions and operating steps to ensure the recovery rate of precious metals and the integrity of the titanium substrate.

‌Metal recovery‌: The stripped precious metal coating and titanium substrate will be further recycled separately.

‌Safety and environmental protection‌: Throughout the recycling process, the recycling team strictly abides by safety regulations and environmental protection requirements, takes necessary safety protection measures and waste liquid and waste treatment measures to ensure the safety of personnel and the environment.

3. Recycling results and impacts

Through this series of recycling measures, Dubai has successfully achieved the resource utilization of titanium anode waste. The recycled precious metals and titanium metals are widely used in jewelry, electronics, chemicals and other fields, bringing significant economic benefits to the local economy. At the same time, this recycling action also reduces the exploitation of natural resources and environmental pollution, and contributes to environmental protection.

Conclusion

The successful practice of Dubai titanium anode waste recycling case not only demonstrates the huge potential of resource recycling, but also provides valuable experience and inspiration for other countries and regions. As the world pays more and more attention to environmental protection and resource recycling, I believe that more countries and regions will join this green practice in the future to jointly promote the sustainable development of the economy and society.
